IBM researcher Raghavan to head Yahoo Research

Raghavan will lead Yahoo Research as it competes with rivals Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. for talent.
- Web media company Yahoo Inc. said on Thursday it named Prabhakar Raghavan, a former IBM researcher, to head Yahoo Research.
- He will lead research in key areas for Yahoo, including search and information navigation, social media, community, personalization, and mobility.
- Prior to joining Yahoo, Raghavan was senior vice president and chief technology officer at Verity Inc., a provider of enterprise search software. He is also the former head of the Computer Science Principles department at IBM’s Almaden Research Center.
